Building an effective website is not as simple as throwing together 10 pages of content. In order for your website to help generate leads and business for you, you really need to determine who your market is for your business products and services and then create a marketing message that will reach those people in a way that will entice them into calling you or requesting information.

Every person goes to a small business looking for a product or service “that can help them!”  Therefore, the main goal of any web site needs to have the message “What Can I Do For You?” or “How Can I Help You?” the customer.   If you ask some questions and hit a nerve with someone and explain how you can help them, you will have a much better chance of getting them to call you or request information.

Think of your web site as an extension of your sales pitch.  When you are on the phone telling them to come see you or you’re pitching them on why your business is so great, are those same messages on your web site?  They better be!

If you are targeting a certain group of people (for example women in the age range of 35 to 50), it is recommended that you put together your website designs and ask a few people in your target market what they think.  Their feedback will help you create a more effective message to reach them and people like them.

Once you have decided on the most effective marketing message the next step is to make sure you have calls to action on your website that direct people to you 4 leads or sales. A call to action is a direct message like “CALL US TODAY” or “CLICK HERE TO BUY NOW” or “CALL FOR MORE INFORMATION.” Too many businesses make the mistake of putting together a great marketing message but don’t ask for the business.  Calls to action direct people to contact you for the business.

So, by this time you should have a great website design with an effective marketing message, and calls to action to direct people to places on your website where you can generate leads or sales.  Once these items are completed, the last thing I recommend that you do is to install some type of analytics software on your website to be able to track the web site traffic and even the leads or sales generated from the website.  Google Analytics is a free software that you can integrate and will help you to understand the people who are coming to the site, where they’re coming from and what they’re doing.
