The first step is to determine how much of the website you want to do yourself. If you are feeling bold, you can purchase a DIY website through companies like Godaddy and do it yourself with their existing design templates. If you have a small business that does not require a lot of interaction with customers then this might be a good choice. However, if you have a business like a photography studio or an interior design company and you require a photo gallery of your images and your website is a reflection on you and your image, you might want to design something more applicable.

There are many designers to get help you build a website is well. You can check on outsourcing your design through places like odesk.com or elance.com. You can also build your own website through online resources such as wix.com.  Odesk and Elance will provide designers for you to choose from at a very low cost.  Just be aware, you might not get english speaking programmers and it might be difficult to get your message across.  Companies like Wix provide more enhanced templates and do it yourself templates that are easy to work with.

No matter what you do, you need to go to a domain registrar like Godaddy.com in search for a website name for your website. Once you register your domain name then you can talk to a developer or build your own website using that name.  I highly recommend that you register and manage your own domain name so no one can control your name and hold your business name hostage.
